Critically-acclaimed for both scripted and documentary editing, Mike began his career with the Toronto New Wave, editing features for Bruce McDonald
(Roadkill), Srinivas Krishna (Masala and Lulu) and Peter Mettler
(Tectonic Plates and Picture of Light).
He went on to cut numerous features for Canadian and international directors, including John Greyson (Law of Enclosures), Richard Kwietniowski (Owning Mahowny), Daniel MacIvor (Past Perfect and Wilby Wonderful), Nisha Ganatra (Cake), and Bruce McCulloch (Comeback Season).
Mike has edited several award-winning documentaries, including Sarah Polley's Stories We Tell, short-listed for the Feature Documentary Oscar, Yung Chang's This is Not a Movie, Noura Kevorkian's Batata, winner of a 2023 Peabody Award, and Nisha Pahuja's To Kill a Tiger, winner of the 2023 Canadian Screen Award for best feature documentary and editing. To Kill a Tiger was also nominated for the 2024 Feature Documentary Oscar.
Mike’s work has been recognized formally through awards and nominations as well as being highlighted in film reviews from around the world. Films he has edited have played at Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Telluride, and Sundance, among other festivals, with 14 features accepted into the Toronto International Film Festival. Sarah Polley’s Stories We Tell was voted in TIFF and CBC polls as one of the 10 best Canadian films of all time.
“Delivering more twists and turns than any other film this year,
Stories We Tell owes much of its success to its byzantine editing
which takes us on what feels like an emotional roller coaster ride.”
